What I did today after work

I meant to leave work before the sun went down, but even having just switched to daylight savings time I still only made it out barely before it dropped below the horizon.

I walked another way home than usual, hoping to find that one supermarket open after 8pm that also takes credit cards. Even though I've lived in this apartment and work nearby, I still have very little sense of direction. I thought I was taking a shortcut, but as time went by I oscillated between worrying about getting lost and reminding myself that I wasn't in any sort of hurry and that it was good exercise. As much as walking around listening to Rachel Maddow can be considered good exercise.

I did find amazingly stumble across a Rewe, which was officially open until 10pm, though at quarter to 9 as I walked in I was dodging those pallet shifters and dancing out of reach of gigantic floor polishers/sweepers. There were only a few sad Broetchen left in the bakery section, but bagged them anyway, together with a container of bacon egg salad, a bag of frozen gyros+rice stovetop meal, a bag of oranges, and a bag of salt-flavored chips.

Salt-flavored because I detest the standard paprika-flavored chips for culinary reasons and the "oriental"-flavored chips for their taste but more honestly the cultural implications of having an "oriental" flavor.

I came home to my roommate's girlfriend's son sleeping in the kitchen. I darted in to freeze the bag of gyros & rice, darted out to snack on the bag of chips, Broetchen, and egg sald.

Meanwhile, I spent another $5.56 at the Amazon Kindle store, even though I don't own a Kindle, just the Kindle program on my iPod Touch.
